In a recent interview, Karen Fukuhara, who will be playing the character Katana in “Suicide Squad,” shared something about her character’s purpose and her supernatural soul-taking abilities. She also expressed how Jared Leto has been convincingly portraying his role as The Joker on and off camera.
Speaking with Comicbook, Fukuhara said about her character, “She’s very loyal to Amanda Waller and Rick Flag. She works under them and keeps a rowdy bunch in line. She’s a protector and a fierce warrior.” When asked how much of her powers would the fans see throughout the film, she responded, “She has her husband’s soul in her sword and I got to talk to Maseo throughout the film and yes, of course that’s in the film, but you’ll have to wait and see how much of the plays into the movie.”
She also explained that she felt lucky for being able to do most of her stunts and sword work, adding, “It really made a difference when I knew everything from muscle memory and I didn’t have to think about it when the cameras were rolling.”
Fukuhara also shared her experience with Leto whose portrayal of The Joker had the rest of the cast singing high praises. The mentally unhinged villain character has been portrayed well by Leto, impressing most of the cast with his depiction even off camera. He allegedly went “full-Joker mode” and sent his fellow cast members very strange gifts such as a dead pig and a live rat during filming.
“Suicide Squad” will hit the theaters on Aug. 5.
