'Street Fighter: Resurrection' news: Director Joey Ansah talks new series, 'World Warrior' sequel

The new “Street Fighter” web series that was developed in partnership with Capcom and Machinima, which was titled “Street Fighter: Resurrection,” came as a part of the same live-action universe as that of the critically acclaimed web series “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.”

However, despite being in the same universe, the new series came as a sequel in a time skip, which also happened to tie-in with the release of the new game “Street Fighter V.”

Series director Joey Ansah recently talked about the new series, the direct sequel to “Assassin’s Fist,” and how it all fits in a larger universe they are trying to create for the popular game franchise.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Ansah revealed that the character of Akuma won’t be appearing in “Resurrection.” Ansah, aside from doing the directorial duties for the series, also starred in it as Akuma and choreographed the fight scenes for the series.

As for the new series, which is actually a sequel to “Assassin’s Fist,” it will be set in the same universe as that of the previous one, but it will not be set in the secluded mountains of Japan. The new series, titled “World Warrior,” will be like a prequel.

“It’s a bit unorthodox leaping ten years down the timeline to do something like that, but hey, do something different,” Ansah said. “While most people wait for ‘World Warrior,’ which will hopefully be a long series, let’s do something radical and tell the prologue of ‘Street Fighter V, ‘and part of the reason that was attractive to me was because it’s contemporary and a lot of it was quite urban… It will still be the same cinematic universe that ‘Assassin’s Fist’ is in, but we’re going to see them in an urban environment.”

While nothing is specific about the direction the story of the “Assassin’s Fist” direct sequel “World Warrior” will take, Ansah revealed that with what he had written as of now, the sequel would take on the events where fans would be able to fully meet Nash and Guile, and witness the death of Nash, too.

“Street Fighter: Resurrection” is now available on go90.
