Street Fighter 5 news: Cammy and Birdie are back; Capcom debunks rumors of XBox release

The upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive Street Fighter V recently received the latest character additions in its roster, during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2015, in Los Angeles.

According to a report by GameSpot, the two new characters revealed were Cammy and Birdie. Veteran Street Fighterfans and players are already familiar with the two characters, as Birdie made his debut appearance on Street Fighter Alpha. He has not been in any Street Fighter game since Alpha 3. Cammy, meanwhile, first appeared in Street Fighter 2.

Additionally, Capcom and Sony also announced an upcoming beta testing period of the upcoming fifth instalment of the hit fighting game franchise, which would allow select players to get their hands on the game prior to its official public release. An Alpha test period will begin on July 23.

Announced last December 2014 as an exclusive for PlayStation 4 consoles, Street Fighter V has long been rumored to have an Ultra or Super edition for Xbox One. However, the people at Capcom debunked this rumor, emphasizing the partnership and the exclusivity of the franchise for the Sony-made PlayStation console.

“One comment we see a lot is that something like a Super Street Fighter 5 is going to come out on Xbox. But the reality is that this is a real partnership. We are console exclusive for this franchise for this numbered run,” said a Capcom representative in an interview

XBox executive Phil Spencer had this to say in a response to fan query in Twitter, about the exclusivity of Street Fighter Vfor the PS4: “Business deals happen. We won’t do all of them. When we have a 1st party franchise in a genre I’d rather invest in ours”

Street Fighter V is coming to PS4 on March 2016.
