'Star Wars Rebels' season 3 spoilers: animated series will return with a time jump

Season 2 of “Star Wars Rebels” ended with the Ghost crew’s fate hanging in the balance as Kanan became blind after his battle with Darth Maul. Meanwhile, it is unknown whether Ahsoka Tano survived after being pushed off a cliff by former master and friend, Anakin Skywalker, as he has become Darth Vader. As for Ezra, he made the mistake of trusting Darth Maul and was briefly lured to the Dark Side.

The cliffhanger ending has made fans crave for season 3, and ahead of the new season’s premiere at the Star Wars Celebration Europe this weekend, Lucasfilm released the first clip of season 3 which appears to confirm a time jump for the animated series.

In the video to promote the Star Wars event, supervising director Dave Filoni previewed what fans can expect at the “Star Wars Rebels” panel at the celebration, saying that Tiya Sircar, who voices Sabine, will talk about the changes in the character in season 3. Samuel Witwer, who voices Darth Maul, will also be onstage to talk about the series. Filoni also promised some “big surprises in store” for fans of the show before introducing the “Star Wars Rebels” season 3 clip.

The clip shows the return of the space pirate Hondo Ohnaka as Sabine and Ezra have broken him out of prison in exchange for some information. Ezra appears to have grown a bit older since viewers last saw him as he now has a new haircut and lightsaber.

Sabine tells the space pirate that he better has the information that he promised, and Hondo says that he and his business associate, Tarba, have whatever they need. Sabine sighs and says that now they’re rescuing two people instead of one, and whatever Ezra had to say was cut off as some Stormtroopers appeared and engaged the Ghost crew in a fight.

Ahsoka and Kanan were not seen in the clip, but it is expected that fans will find out what happened to them in the season 3 premiere of the hit animated series.

“Star Wars Rebels” season 3 is expected to return to Disney XD this fall.
