Following his introduction to the canon in the back-to-back premiere of “Star Wars Rebels” season 3, Grand Admiral Thrawn will be back for a more in-depth showing against the Ghost crew.
This week’s episode titled “Hera’s Heroes” brings the Twi’lek rebel back home to Ryloth in a mission to retrieve a family artifact from her ancestral home. While manning a supply trip herself, given that a couple of their attempts have recently been ambushed by the Empire, Hera stumbles upon a personal mission that leads her back to her planet. A promo clip from the installment sees her trying to save her father, Cham Syndulla, while he is being chased by Stormtroopers in speedsters and it is presumably where she will realize that she needs to carry out a special mission.
What is interesting is that it seems that Hera just can’t catch a break as she gets some personal time with both big baddies of the season. It can be remembered that two weeks ago, Darth Maul ambushed the Ghost crew and held her, Sabine, Zeb and Chopper hostage until Kanan and Ezra saved them. This week, she gets one-on-one time with Thrawn in her house as the Chiss tactician quickly figures out who she is from the huge family portrait hanging on the wall. The covert mission was going on smoothly with Chopper distracting the Imperial guards and Ezra dressed in a cadet suit. But like every assignment in the series, things spin out of control when they are cornered by Thrawn.
As eccentric as Thrawn is compared to other Imperial generals given that he is more calm and manipulative instead of impatient and violent, it will be curious to see what his next step in dealing with Hera will be.
Some fans are speculating that instead of throwing her in a jail cell, he would instead try to pry as much information as possible or maybe even try to turn her allegiance to them. But since the Ghost pilot is from a family of rebel fighters, chances are slim that she would be taking that offer.
“Star Wars Rebels” season 3 airs every Saturday, 8:30 p.m. ET on Disney XD.
