The finale of the second season of “Star Wars Rebels” has left the viewers with more questions than answers. Fans can’t wait for the new season to return, and the creator of the animated series, Dave Filoni, revealed new details about the upcoming season.
The last few scenes of the finale showed a montage of what happened to the characters. Darth Vader was shown walking away from the devastated Sith temple. Also, an ambiguous scene showed Ashoka Tano walking not knowing how her fierce battle with Anakin concluded.
Some fans are debating whether the lightsaber wielding warrior, Ashoka, is still alive or not. However, Dave Filoni mentioned that there may be a chance that she has survived because she is a strong warrior who went through a lot. The possibility of whether she survived Darth Vader’s wrath or not is still to be confirmed.
Another surprise that came with the finale episode is the return of Darth Maul. There has not been a lot of information on what happened to the Sith after he was defeated by Palpatine back in the “Clone Wars” series.
Fans have already been speculating that Darth Maul will make a comeback and the Sith will ensue a fierce battle between him and Darth Vader. Yet, Filon immediately denied that rumour saying, “I wouldn’t count on that.”
He also explained, “What I think is interesting is that Maul has an awareness of him. I think that that’s a particularly interesting thing. Maul obviously has been somehow keeping tabs on what’s going on in the galaxy and probably wishes he was more a part of it. That’s another bit of wonderful story, which is: What has Maul been up to? How did Maul get on this desolate planet? And we obviously don’t answer those questions at this time, but it is stuff we’ve considered when we wrote these stories. It never came to be that he would face off with Vader, at least not yet.”
Based on the explanation of Filoni, it seems that Maul is aware that it would be difficult to battle Darth Vader. Furthermore, this is probably the reason why he has been off the radar since the Empire took over.
There is no definite date yet for the return of “Star Wars Rebels” but it is set to premiere in the Fall of 2016.
