Is the “Star Wars” franchise pulling a Jon Snow on fans? The next film is still a year away, but numerous theories about “Star Wars: Episode 8” have already started circulating online. Now, the latest theory indicates that a pivotal character who died in “The Force Awakens” may have survived and will return in the next installment.

According to The Morning Ledger, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) may have survived after his fight with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). In “The Force Awakens,” the two had a confrontation which led to Han Solo falling to his death. But it was claimed that Kylo may have been working as a double agent, and the fall was set up to prove his loyalty to the First Order.

It was also noted that Ford’s name was listed as part of the 2017 cast in IMDb. However, upon checking back on “Episode 8’s” IMDb page, the actor’s name is nowhere on the list. Among the stars from the original trilogy films, only Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) are listed as part of the cast of the upcoming film.

Meanwhile, the debate about Kylo being a double agent is ongoing on Reddit, and fans have been spinning their own theories on how Kylo fake-killed his father. Reddit user Corrog says that Kylo may have stabbed Han in a non-fatal location, and let him fall off the bridge in the Starkiller Base. Kylo then uses the Force to redirect Han to a chute which leads to an area where a shuttle is nearby.

Redditor Yeahippos said that perhaps, Han and Kylo had an agreement that is similar to Snape and Dumbledore’s in “Harry Potter.” It was claimed that perhaps the two agreed that Kylo’s mission was more important than Han’s life, and that Han gave permission to kill him so that Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis) won’t question Kylo’s loyalty.

For now, the “Star Wars” team is keeping mum about the film’s plot, so fans will have to wait until next year to find out if Han is truly dead or alive.

“Star Wars: Episode 8” opens in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017
