It sounds like Adam Driver is trying to upstage Mark Hamill’s little teaser with one of his own, and that is just the thing people expect from a villain like Kylo Ren.
In an interview with Collider, Driver talked about how the script of “Star Wars: Episode VIII” reminded him of “Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.” Before readers take this the wrong way, Driver did not say that the film was going to be a rehash of “The Empire Strikes Back,” rather, he said that the shift in tone between the previous film and “Episode VIII” was quite noticeable.
“It’s great. It’s similar to how ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ has a different tone. For that people always go, ‘oooh, it’s dark,’ but I don’t know that it necessarily is. It’s just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear,” the actor said.
As for the storyline, fans can rest easy because according to Driver, director Rian Johnson will not be dumbing anything down for the audience. He also heaped a lot of praise on the director. “Rian is coming into something that we kind of set up and he just took it to the next level in a really great way… Rian’s writing is so clear. I learned a lot of things about my character through his writing.”
Meanwhile, Lupita Nyong’o (Maz Kanata) revealed that she has not filmed her scenes yet for “Star Wars: Episode VIII” despite the fact that production wrapped up back in July. After her comment, rumors started to spread that she may have been cut from the film.
“Star Wars: Episode VIII” is set to hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. While waiting, fans can also check out the “Star Wars” spin-off film “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which premieres a few months from now on Dec. 16.
