“Star Wars Battlefront” is bringing gamers’ space battle dreams come true via a new mode in the forthcoming downloadable content (DLC), Death Star.
Dubbed as Battle Station, the new feature included the expansion pack will have players battling in three different phases, each with their own unique missions to fulfill. The announcement came fresh from the currently ongoing Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, and has been reported via the game’s official website.
The initial stage will have players piloting X-wings and A-wings while battling TIE fighters as well as TIE interceptors. The goal is to destroy as much of the Empire’s ships until the Y-wing backup arrives and slowly targets the Star Destroyer. Once the dagger-shaped line of capital ships weaken its defenses, the Rebels can then infiltrate it, which is where the second stage of the gameplay will focus on.
Players will be fighting inside the space station which will be reminiscent of some of the settings from the original movie trilogy. Rebels will then have to recover a priority droid that is being held somewhere within the Death Star. This stage also allows gamers to be the latest character additions to “Star Wars Battlefront,” Chewbacca and bounty hunter Bossk.
This will eventually lead to the last stage of the mission which will be some kind of an escape adventure. Players will need to get back into space where the final battle will supposedly end by blowing up the Death Star. This time, the option to be other notable Rebellion personas is up for grabs like Luke Skywalker in his iconic Red-5 X-wing. But like what transpired in the movie, Darth Vader will join in on the fun aboard his TIE Advanced.
To those however who are leaning towards the Dark Side, Battle Station also allows gamers to side with the Empire with missions flipped with that of the Rebels.
This Battle Station mode was announced shortly after the “Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission” was officially launched at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). The virtual reality (VR) addition, which is described as “an extension of the base game, which is known as a truly authentic ‘Star Wars’ video game,” aims to create an immersive experience for “Battlefront” players.
“It’s been really important for us to hit that high bar, working closely with Lucasfilm to ensure that the VR experience is fun and exciting for ‘Star Wars’ fans,” title producer James Svensson of Criterion Games UK explained in an Electronic Arts-hosted interview. “The VR Mission will be available for free to all owners of ‘Star Wars Battlefront’ and a PlayStation VR headset on PlayStation 4.”
The “Star Wars Battlefront” Death Star expansion pack is expected to go live sometime next month while “Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission” will be available to game owners this holiday season.
