Sony Mobile Android Marshmallow update: some Xperia devices bypassing Android 5.1.1 to get Marshmallow directly

Owners of a number of Sony Xperia devices have been left behind when it comes to the Android game, as a few device models still run on Android Lollipop 5.0 version and are yet to see an update to Android Lollipop 5.1.1.

However, according to a report by Xperia Blog, it seems that Sony Mobile will be skipping Android Lollipop 5.1.1 on some of its devices and jump directly to the newest version that is Android Marshmallow 6.0. As shown in the Sony Mobile support page, it shows that the Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, and the Xperia M5 will be getting a Marshmallow 6.0 update from their current Lollipop 5.0 operating system.

As announced by the official Sony Mobile blog, here is the list of the lucky smartphone models that will be the first batch to get their fix of Android Marshmallow 6.0.

  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z3
  • Xperia Z3 Compact
  • Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
  • Xperia Z2
  • Xperia Z2 Tablet
  • Xperia M5
  • Xperia C5 Ultra
  • Xperia M4 Aqua
  • Xperia C4

However, the company did not specify a dateor at least a time frame periodwhen users can expect these updates to start rolling out. Additionally, this list is only an initial list, and thus more Sony Xperia devices will be getting the Android Marshmallow update in the future.

“We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our devices as possible, as quickly as we can,” Sony said. “We’re really excited about the new Sony features & functionality and the improvements we’ve made to the user experience and we’ll be sharing more soon.”
