Sony Android Marshmallow update: developers can now make custom Marshmallow ROMs

Sony just recently made the Android Marshmallow 6.0 available for developers to build custom Sony Xperia ROMs on, as part of their Sony Open Device Program.

Announced through the Sony Mobile Developer page, the company just added an AOSP Marshmallow (Android 6.0) configuration and binaries available for download. Using this toolkit allows developers to create their own custom Android marshmallow-based ROMs for the most recent Sony Xperia devices. And to further expand the range of availability, the new Xperia Z5 line of smartphones has been added to the Open Device program.

On the other hand, users who are not into software developing can still have the new Android Marshmallow on their devices. Following other leading mobile manufacturers, Sony has announced its initial line up of lucky smartphone models set to have the first taste of the new Android Marshmallow.

As announced by the official Sony Mobile blog, here is the list of the lucky smartphone models that will be the first batch to get their fix on Android Marshmallow 6.0.

However, the company did not specify a dateor at least a time frame periodwhen users can expect these updates to start rolling out. Additionally, this list is only an initial list, and thus more Sony Xperia devices will be getting the Android Marshmallow update in the future.
