'Sherlock' season 4 news: Production begins, Martin Freeman spotted carrying a baby around London; James Holmes to guest star?

The highly anticipated fourth season of BBC’s widely popular detective series “Sherlock” has began its productions in London, England this week, featuring the main cast out and about on the street.

According to images shared by the Daily Mail, it seems like Sherlock’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) best friend and trusty sidekick Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) will be facing the greatest challenge of his life yet becoming a father.

The 44-year-old actor was photographed carrying what could be a decoy baby as he filmed some scenes with Cumberbatch and his on-screen and real-life wife Amanda Abbington who portrays Mary Watson. The trio was spotted in the iconic place of Borough Market and at Trinity Church Square afterwards. Previously, the lead star has shot on location in Cardiff.

It seems like Watson will be a hands-on dad to his baby daughter, while his wife, who is a former CIA agent, will take care of a large hound. Co-creator Mark Gatiss teased the scene on his Twitter stating, “The dog did nothing in the daytime… #Sherlock.”

Reports claim that the new season is inspired by one of the original novels of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle titled “The Adventure of Silver Blaze” published in 1892. However, it remains to be seen if this comes to fruition.

Aside from the regular mainstays, it was revealed that “Miranda” star James Holmes will be making an appearance to play the role of Passenger. It is predicted that he will appear in the premiere but specific details about his character are yet to be disclosed.

Joining him is “Doctor Who” alum Daniel Hoffman-Gill who shared to his fans the good news accompanied by a photo of his script, “Proud to be part Sherlock as well as Doctor Who. All I need now is Game of Thrones and I’ve got the set,” he said.

Earlier this year, Gatiss alongside co-creator Steven Moffat announced in a joint statement the show’s return saying, “Sherlock series four – here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back to Baker Street – and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson bringing adventure, romance and terror in their wake. This is the story we’ve been telling from the beginning. A story about to reach its climax.”

Season 4 of “Sherlock” is expected to hit the small screens sometime in 2017.
