Benedict Cumberbatch said that the upcoming season was going to be “myopically dark.” So, how twisted is it going to get for Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes and his loyal sidekick John Watson (Martin Freeman) when they continue their adventures in “Sherlock” season 4?
If the rumors are true, things are going to get really rough this season. Mary Watson (Amanda Abbington) will allegedly show her true colors and betray the duo. Mary is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) agent and an assassin, after all, so she is certainly capable of causing trouble if she wants to. How will John react to this?
Sources also say that James Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is not really dead and he will be back to cause more trouble for Sherlock. According to reports, the third Holmes brother, Sherrinford, may also appear in the upcoming season and that Tom Hiddleston will reportedly play him.
Furthermore, several reports mention that a ghost may haunt Sherlock in the upcoming season, and some even suggest that it is the ghost of Sherrinford or that of Moriarty. However, the “ghosts” of the past that will haunt Sherlock and John this season are probably not going to be literal ghosts.
Season 4 will introduce viewers to a new villain named Culverton Smith (Toby Jones). In an interview with Collider last month, “Sherlock” co-creator Steven Moffat said that Smith was going to be the darkest villain yet for the series. “This guy is the purest evil. Sherlock is actually appalled by him. He’s the most evil villain we’ve had. I don’t think that when you see it, you will disagree. He’s horrific.”
Sources say “Sherlock” season 4 is scheduled to premiere in January next year. Meanwhile, Netflix Life believes that the upcoming season may find its way onto the streaming service by June or July 2017.
