Season 2 of Freeform’s fantasy series “Shadowhunters” may feature more of the developing romance between Alec Lightwood (Matthew Daddario) and warlock Magnus Bane (Harry Shum Jr.) when it premieres.
Following the freshman run of the television adaptation of “Mortal Instruments” by Cassandra Clare, Shum shared with Out that he has high hopes for the budding couple, “I would love to see Alec and Magnus fight together. That would be so cool to see. Fighting together would be hilarious dialogue, some great effects and action. And of course, magic! You can never have too much magic.”
However, neither Shum nor Daddario know for certain what to be expected from their characters as the series introduced plot twists not that were in the book, such as Alec almost getting married to Lydia. Regarding the new installment’s arc, Daddario said, “I wish we knew. [The writers are] just getting started on it and they’re going to be aggressively working on it for months.”
Although he has no concrete details for the time being as the series reportedly is under pre-production, the actor revealed what he wants to see regarding his character, “I want Alec to really get down and dirty with the mess that is the shadow world. I want to see everyone on the front lines doing their thing. I think that will be fun.”
Executive producer Michael Reisz also told Paste that Alex coming out during the freshman run has given them to opportunity to launch the stories they have planned for the future, “You never know where things are going to go, and so we have seasons worth of stories planned for them that will both honor and surprise the fans and the characters.”
Freeform has yet to set a premiere date for season 2 of “Shadowhunters,” but it is expected to air later in the year.
