The battle for Oval caused the loss of another life in “Scandal.”
In the 11th episode, Olivia (Kerry Washington) and her team were able to release Cyrus (Jeff Perry) from prison in order to become the next U.S. President. With Olivia’s advice, Mellie (Bellamy Young) decided to draw back. However, Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) interrupted her. Apparently, Elizabeth is dealing with Sarah’s (Zoe Perry) group.
Mellie’s change of heart shocked Olivia.
Sarah then met with Elizabeth and Mellie. The former brought down her plan to let Mellie be the president and to become her pawn. However, Mellie declined to follow her, which led Sarah to kill Elizabeth. Sarah even threatened to kill the latter’s children.
After this, Sarah became Mellie’s new chief-of-staff.
“Portia infused Liz North with a smart powerful vulnerable soul while also making the humor sing — and that brought all of us in the writers’ room a lot of joy. If I could keep her forever, I would — but kidnapping is illegal,” executive producer Shonda Rhimes said in a statement (via Entertainment Tonight).
During her interview with Entertainment Weekly, de Rossi revealed that she had thought about leaving show toward the end of 2016. She is pursuing her art curation and publishing business, which requires an ample amount of time and attention. Hence, she contacted Rhimes, who supports her with the new career she chose.
“I’m 44 years old and I thought that I have a chance to start something completely new,” said the actress.
With regards to her character, de Rossi stated that Elizabeth’s death shocked her as well.
“The part that shocked me the most was I didn’t even, as a character, have a second to acknowledge what was happening before I was murdered,” she explained.
The sixth season of “Scandal” will continue on April 27 on ABC.
