Samsung Galaxy J2 specs, release date: Samsung's new'Make for India' handset retailing in India priced Rs 8,490

Samsung just launched a new addition to the lineup of its Galaxy J line of smartphonesthe new Samsung Galaxy J2.

According to a report by GSM Arena, the new Samsung Galaxy J2 was recently launched in Bangalore, India, and is dubbed a smartphone that is made “in India” and “for India”, as it comes with features that are specifically made with Indian users in mind.

The new Galaxy J2, made through Samsung’s R&D facility in India, improves on some major aspects compared to its predecessor Galaxy J1. The new Galaxy J2 sports a 4.7-inch wide Super AMOLED display with qHD resolution. It runs under an Exynos 3475 chip that comes with quad-core 1.3 GHz CPU. The device pack 1 GB worth of RAM, along with 8 GB worth of built-in internal storage capacity. The device also supports an external microSD expansion of up to 128 GB worth.

As for the camera, the Galaxy J2 comes with a 5 megapixels main rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture and LED flash, and this comes coupled with a 2 megapixels front facing camera for selfies and video calling that has an f/2.4 aperture. The dual SIM device is powered by a 2,000 mAh battery, and it boots on Android Lollipop 5.1.

Now, as for the features unique and made specifically with Indian users in mind, the Galaxy J2 comes with a saving feature called the Ultra Data Saving Mode. This feature blocks certain application from consuming unwanted data and optimizing usage of other apps thus being able to save up to 50% on your data plan consumption, release up to 11% of system RAM used, and as a result extend the phone’s standby time up to two times it’s worth.

Ultra Data Saving Mode, which is the key feature in the device, has been developed at our Indian R&D facilities to deliver the most cost efficient 4G device.”

The Samsung Galaxy J2 will be available from September 21, for Rs 8,490 (about $125).
