Ryan Reynolds talked about the awkward moment when he fell in love with wife Blake Lively.
People Magazine reported that the “Deadpool” actor sat down with People and Entertainment Weekly Editorial Director Jess Cagle for SiriusXM’s Entertainment Weekly Radio “Deadpool Special” and spilled some beans on his first date with his “The Green Lantern” co-star.
Although the 39-year-old actor said he was just “buddies” with Lively when they filmed the superhero movie, he was later surprised to see a romantic explosion between the both of them in a double date originally set for each of their respective partners.
“About a year after ‘Green Lantern’ had come and gone and we were both single we went on a double date,” Reynolds told Cagle. “She was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl and it was like the most awkward date for the respective parties because we were just like fireworks coming across.”
The fireworks ended up in marriage in September 2012. Lively, 28, then gave birth to their daughter, James, in December 2014.
Recalling the time of James’ birth, Reynolds openly shared his experience with Lively in the delivery room in his interview in “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Wednesday.
“I jammed a little Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On,'” the first-time dad told Meyers. “It was like steak knives coming out of her eyes. Just like, ‘Are you f****** s******* me right now?'”
However, Reynolds did admit that it wasn’t the right song at the right time.
“She was a mercenary… I think I just caught her right in the middle of a contraction,” he added. “She was pretty much making jokes the entire time.”
