Disney and LucasFilms may still be reeling from the record breaking sales of “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” but as early as now, fans are already clamoring for official news about “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

When the countdown for “The Force Awakens” finally came to end last Dec. 18, a new timer has been started for the new spinoff. Slated for a Dec. 16 release, “Rogue One” will follow the foundation of the Galactic Empire. A group of Rebel fighters form a group in order to carry an almost impossible mission of stealing the layout plans of the Death Star before it can be built.

If “The Force Awakens” is set 30 plus years after “Return of the Jedi,” “Rogue One” will be in the past and will cover the events between the original series and the prequels effectively linking them together. This will also bring light on how Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) was able to get a hold of the plan and eventually make their own counterattacks.

The film will star Academy Award nominated actress Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnei Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, and Alam Tudyk. Furthermore, the late Peter Cushing will also be reprising his role as Grand Moff Tarkin as he will be digitally added to the movie.

Production is still ongoing and the producers of the movie seem to be trying very hard to keep as much mystery as possible. Aside from the premise of the story, no official synopsis and character names have been given making fans more determined to come up with their own speculations.

In an article by Hitfix, a few possibilities on what might go down in the movie is presented including the story’s revisiting of Genosis. Genosis is speculated to be the backdrop of the movie given that it was where the plans for the Death Star started. Furthermore, other trivias like the actual cost of making the Death Star may also be tackled.
