'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' news: New villain appears to have a white cape and a 'really cool name'

Upcoming spinoff from the highly successful franchise “Star Wars” titled “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” finally has its possible villain revealed.

Comicbook shares that based on reputable fan site Making Star Wars, it seems like the film’s antagonist is someone important in the Empire. It is teased that his main feature includes a huge majestic cape with a slit on the back.

The site shared that there is apparently a shot in the movie showcasing a beautiful scene where the character is treading through a shallow body of water with the cape trailing behind. It is speculated that he appears to be an older male.

The news outlet’s editor-in-chief Jason Ward revealed that his alleged sources told him that the character has a “cool name” and a “badass sidearm.” He believes that the actor portraying him may be Ben Mendelshon.

There are also suggestions that Darth Vader may appear alongside a new category of Stormtroopers dubbed Deathtroopers and redesigned TIE fighters. However, it remains to be seen if these come to fruition.

It was previously unveiled that the main storyline of the movie will revolve around a group of resistance fighters being united on a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans. The story is said to be a prequel as it takes place before the events that have transpired in one of the films in the original trilogy, “Star Wars: A New Hope,” which was released in 1977.

Taking the helm as director is Gareth Edwards, with cast members such as Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Forest Whitaker, Alan Tudyk, and Jonathan Aris. Production has reportedly began last August in Elstree Studios in Hertfordshire with some scenes being shot in Maldives.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” is slated to premiere on Dec. 16.
