Although it was April Fools’ Day, Adult Swim did not intend to fool anyone when they released the premiere episode of “Rick and Morty” season 3.

The network surprised fans of the adult animated sci-fi sitcom when they released the first episode. Fans felt excited when they finally saw their favorite eccentric scientist embark on another cosmic adventure with his good-hearted 14-year-old grandson once again. Show creator Justin Roiland voices both of the main characters.

The first episode featured the Federation invading Earth while Rick remained imprisoned in his own mind. The scientist was under custody by a group of aliens whose goal is to find his portal gun.

Summer and Morty retrieved Rick’s portal gun, and they went to the Cronenberg’s Earth, the old world where Morty’s family are the only survivors.

Inside Rick’s mind, the young Rick saw Diane and young Beth disintegrating. Out of panic, he recreated the portal gun and the aliens immediately downloaded the gun’s code. It turned out that the code was a virus. Rick stole the brain of his captor and gained access to confidential information, including a way to disband the Federation.

Rick nearly escaped, but an army of alternate Ricks attacked him. He transferred his brain to one of his attackers and moved to Rick Chief Commander.

As for Summer and Morty, his parents brought him to the Citadel of Ricks. As Rick Chief Commander, he gained access to the control area and transported the Citadel to a federal prison. While the Citadel and alternate Ricks were at war, the Chief maneuvered to make the Federation currency worthless and ruined the invader’s economy, which led to their exit from Earth.

Based on Adult Swim’s website, the third season of “Rick and Morty” will continue on April 22 at 9 p.m. EDT. It looks like Poopy the Gymnast will join the two protagonists in a dream-like adventure.
