All good things must come to an end. Apparently, these include things as good as free live streaming episodes of “Rick and Morty.”
In a tweet that surprised the show’s fans, Adult Swim announced that last weekend’s episode will not be streamed live. Instead, only subscribers will get to see Episode 4 and the remainder of Season 3. Adult Swim also gave a dig on pirates, telling them to start their engines.
Meanwhile, Polygon reported that viewers who were waiting for the live stream were left disappointed. Instead of seeing Episode 4, they saw “Rick and Morty’s” faux live version. The report also said that some fans believed that Adult Swim was only trolling.
In turn, Adult Swim responded, saying they “livestreamed the first two episodes of Rick and Morty to kick off the new season.” They also added that episodes will still be offered for online viewing after they air.
“Rick and Morty” Season 3 has been one of the most highly-anticipated in recent years. The anticipation grew even more with the show being pushed and delayed for several months. As far as the storyline goes, fans can expect new things this season. Last month, co-creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon confirmed that they have tapped female writers to join their team.
“It was great. It all went really well. We had a gender-balanced writer’s room for Season 3,” Harmon said in an interview with The Daily Beast. “I’ve always thought with writers’ rooms, the hat trick is not oh, getting women into the writers’ room, it’s having it be gender-balanced,” Harmon continued.
He explained that they now have an environment where nobody represents any gender and that nobody is “an ambassador to anything.”
“If I’m one of three men in a room full of six writers and three of them are women, that means I can pitch stories about, uh, tampons without understanding them and the three women don’t have the job of explaining tampons to me,” he added.
