Earlier this year, “Rick and Morty” co-creator Dan Harmon revealed that season 3 would probably come out before the end of 2016. However, that was back in January and much has changed since then. Sources now believe that the upcoming season would hit the small screen in March 2017; however, there are also others who think an earlier release date in April is plausible.
Fortunately, season 3 will reportedly have 14 episodes, unlike the previous seasons. Furthermore, it is rumored that Summer and Evil Morty will be the ones to bust Rick out of the Galactic Federation Prison he is imprisoned in at the start of the upcoming season. Other sources say Rick’s unnamed ex-wife will spring him out of jail.
While sources argue on the identity of the person/persons who will free Rick, it seems clear that he will not be staying long in jail. Back in July, Harmon told Den of Geek that he does not want the third season to spend too much time in prison.
“I don’t think anybody wants to do a third season that simply spends a whole bunch of episodes dealing with a situation that we created at the end of the second season. So I think that’s a non-spoiler way of saying things should be okay pretty quickly,” he said.
Sources say the genie Mr. Meeseeks is going to return this season. Moreover, reports also say that there is already a character made especially for Vin Diesel if he does accept the offer to join the show for its third season. Diesel hasn’t confirmed yet if he has accepted or declined. It is rumored that Diesel’s character will be based on Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) if he accepts as he is a D&D player in real life.
Adult Swim has yet to announce the release date and plot for the upcoming season, so the release date and plot details mentioned are all speculations and rumors as of this moment.
