'Rick and Morty' season 3 release date, spoilers: Hit sci-fi animation to return this month? Concept arts hint at great changes

Is an August release still possible for “Rick and Morty” season 3?

An alleged post on Adult Swim’s official Instagram account hinted at a first teaser trailer release that was supposed to have kicked off on Aug. 9 at 12:15 a.m. EST. The post had since been deleted, and no teaser trailer was ever seen, prompting some fans to wonder if the Instagram post had been nothing but a mere hoax.

On the other hand, concept arts from season 3, which were posted on “Rick and Morty’s” official Twitter account are still up and have given fans something to base some plot speculations on. The first art, posted on Aug. 18, was that of the notorious Gromflamite Prison General, which is expected to make any escape attempt difficult for Rick Sanchez, who turned himself in to the Galactic Federation in the previous season’s finale.

The second art posted the next day showed Rick’s garage laboratory sans the alcoholic mad scientist’s stuff, hinting at the possibility that Rick may have been gone for a very long time.

Both posts did not indicate any official release date for the highly anticipated installment to the critically acclaimed animated sitcom. According to The Bitbag, an August launch may no longer be possible since the production activities for season 3 have only begun last month. Series creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon have been keeping mum about the details of the upcoming season. They have, however, revealed that the targeted release date is at the end of this year.

The 14-episode season 3 will show the ramifications of Rick’s imprisonment and Earth’s induction into the Galactic Federation. Fans can expect a radically altered status quo when “Rick and Morty” returns.

Another speculation points to the possibility that the Rick that was imprisoned in season 2 may not really be the Rick of Dimension C-137, whom viewers of the show have come to know as the Real Rick. Other speculations include a fake Rick taking over the Real Rick’s place and travelling with the real Morty, Rick potentially becoming a criminal mastermind in another dimension, and the possible return of Evil Morty.
