'Rick and Morty' season 3 news: New comic book on its way; female writers join TV series

Aside from season 3 of “Rick and Morty” reportedly being written, there is not much information being made known about the highly anticipated next installment in the animated series.

As fans wait for official details, reports claim that they can first tune in to the apparent announcement for the release of the comic book series. Unlike the first “Rick and Morty” comics penned by Zac Gorman, the next one will be written by Tom Fowler. The latter is a veteran illustrator, and it will be his first time to do the script for the comics.

Fans may also get their hands on the mobile game “Pocket Mortys” which is currently rolling out for both Android and iOS platforms. The game seemingly parodies “Pokemon” in which players have to catch wild Mortys that have different forms, train them, and use them in battles. It has in-app purchases but free to download.

Writer Dan Harmon previously revealed to Den of Geek that the third season is on the way as the studios have been working on it with a bunch of new staff writers. “There was a craving for a gender balance in the writers’ room that we had never had, but I’m also very proud of the fact that we didn’t compromise ourselves following that craving,” he said.

“We just looked harder and I don’t know if it was coincidence or because the show was popping up on the radar of a lot of great female writers noticing, ‘Well, they don’t have any women writers in there. I’m gonna submit something.’ It was probably a combination of all those factors,” he added.

Speculations suggest that the addition of more writers may change the direction of the show as Harmon confirmed that the cliffhanger in season 2 will be solved quickly during the early parts of the new season to give way for new plot lines and more interesting problems for the characters.

It remains to be seen when season 3 of “Rick and Morty” will be aired.
