'Resident Evil 7' updates: Fans still waiting for details; rumors indicate Raccoon City setting, horror theme

It has been three months now since fans heard news about “Resident Evil 7.” Back in October, the title’s producer Masachika Kawata told SIliconera that they cannot reveal details about “Resident Evil” at that time but asked fans to “stay tuned.”

However, at this point, fans are still banking on rumors, instead of at least a hint of information about the upcoming game. According to Christian Today, the setting will still take place in Raccoon City, the same location featured in the first three games. Aside from this, the game will also follow the same general theme of horror and may bring back Nemesis and William Birkins to “Resident Evil 7.”

Nonetheless, fans should still look forward to the next installment of the game, given that Capcom has been keen on listening to the feedback of the players. According to former Capcom marketing chief Michael Pattison, “We have obviously seen the consumer response and the PR response. There was some great positives out of that, but it was a mixed bag, as we saw from the review scores,” noted Movie Pilot.

He expressed how these comments should play a role in “Resident Evil 7,” indicating “We have got to take that on-board, we can’t ignore that, and we have to take that onto the next game when we make the next Resident Evil.”

He also explained how some elements were well received by fans such as the Leon mission, while others were not, such as those with too much content. He said, “You’ll find where we go next will likely be more targeted at our core fanbase.”

While waiting for concrete details about “Resident Evil 7,” fans can enjoy other titles from Capcom such as the HD remaster of the original “Resident Evil” released last year and the “Resident Evil 0” slated for launch on Jan. 19.
