'Resident Evil 7' release date, news: latest clips reveal new monster, Aunt Rhody; Demo arrives this December

Capcom continuously unveils gameplay details for its highly anticipated zombie-themed game, “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.”

Recently, a new clip titled “Shadows” was released and it showcases a monster attacking the protagonist, Ethan. Although no specific information about the creature has been shared, it appears to have razor-sharp claws and a head with several sharp teeth.

In addition, another video dubbed “Aunt Rhody” teases the player while going up the stairs as a creepy humming sound is heard in the background which sounds like someone is singing a melancholy song. Upon reaching the top of the stairs, an old woman sitting on a rocking chair is seen.

Speculations have it that the so-called Aunt Rhody might be a member of the cannibalistic Baker family or just an innocent-looking lady who can be another enemy with hidden capabilities. Aside from her, the characters of Ada Wong and Sheva Alomar are also rumored to appear in the new installment.

On a related note, there are rumors that the sequel may arrive earlier than the official launch date. Reports claim that the game’s SteamDB page apparently showed a curious listing of Jan. 1, 2017, which is three weeks earlier than what Capcom has scheduled. Others believe that the said date may only be pertaining to another promotional trailer.

There are also suggestions that the game will be an exclusive title for PlayStation VR throughout 2017 and it seems that there is no plan yet to port it to other platforms. Since there is no comment yet from the game developer, available information should be taken with a grain of salt.

As fans wait for confirmation, they can first get their hands on a new demo named “Tape 3” slated to be out sometime in December. However, a specific date has yet to be announced by Capcom.

“Resident Evil 7” is expected to be released on Jan. 24, 2017.
