'Resident Evil 7' news: Capcom to release free DLC chapter for game

“Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” is slated to come out in a few days, and the Capcom marketing machine has been running non-stop in the months leading to the release. The game has been all over the internet for the past few months, but Capcom has up the ante, and now, they are also giving away additional content for the yet to be released game. What’s a better promotional tactic than free game content and merchandise, right?

Famitsu (translated by Gematsu) has reported that Capcom is planning to release a downloadable content (DLC) chapter this spring. And yes, it’s offered for free. The complimentary short story scenario is titled “Not A Hero.”

The content of the chapter hasn’t been disclosed yet at this time. However, it’s speculated that it won’t be related to the main game’s story arc. Instead, it’s more of a superficial relevance to the horrific journey of the game’s protagonist, Ethan.

Back in June 2016, PlayStation Store started accepting pre-orders of the survival horror video game, and players who pre-order are able to receive a “Survival Pack” DLC. It includes Herbs, First Aid Med, Strong First Aid Med, Lucky Coin, and an Early Unlock of “Madhouse Mode.” This promo package will also unlock the hardest difficulty levels in the game.

Season Pass holders will also get several add-ons like “Banned Footage Volume 1,” “Banned Footage Volume 2,” and an unidentified story episode.

Presented during the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2016, “Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” will introduce Ethan, a civilian from the fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana, who is searching for his missing wife, Mia. The game will be played from a first-person perspective. This will the 27th entry of the video game series.

“Resident Evil 7: Biohazard” is set to come out on Jan. 24 in North America and Europe, and Jan. 26 in Japan. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
