'Red Dead Redemption 2' release date update: Game in the works despite E3 2016 absence

The rumor mill continues to swirl and spin about the sequel to Rockstar’s 2010 open world action-adventure western video game “Red Dead Redemption,” with concerns about the game’s existence and future ramping up after rumors suggested the title was pulled out from this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).

Previous reports revealed that Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, would allegedly be present at E3 2016 in a “big way.” Many took the announcement to mean that the company might finally announce the sequel to “Red Dead Redemption,” with fans of the game itching in anticipation.

Unfortunately for those expecting a “Red Dead Redemption 2” announcement, Take-Two Interactive’s big E3 2016 presence entailed the presentation of another long awaited sequel to one of the company’s other franchises, “Mafia III.”

Around the end of E3 2016 last week, many believed that the supposed reveal of “Red Dead Redemption 2” was actually canned right at the last moment. Reports suggested that a reveal trailer for the game would have been shown at Sony’s press conference, but was cancelled because elements of the video game trailer were allegedly evocative of the recent tragedy in Orlando.

Adam Boyes, the vice president of Third Party Relations and Developer Technology Group at PlayStation, claimed on Twitter that the rumors were false and that all of the parts of Sony’s presentation were already planned and locked in for months ahead of the actual event.

Despite the continued absence of any official word regarding the title’s existence or lack thereof, on the rise are reports of rumors affirming that “Red Dead Redemption 2” is at least under development. Some even claimed to have leaked alleged details of the game, with rumors claiming that the official title of the sequel is “Red Dead Redemption 2: Legends of the West.”

The leak was shared on the Reddit community website, although the post has now been deleted. Allegedly, the game was to be a prequel to “Red Dead Redemption” with the story focusing on the younger days of Seth and Irish; major characters in the 2010 game.

With nothing but rumors surrounding the game, players can only wait until either Rockstar or Take-Two Interactive makes any official announcements for “Red Dead Redemption 2.”
