Actress Priyanka Chopra proves her versatility by playing the antagonist in “Baywatch.”
“My mom and me, it was our favorite thing to watch,” Chopra shared to Entertainment Weekly, referring to the original series in the 1990s.
“I loved the theme song, I loved how everybody was backlit, running in slow motion,” she continued. She stated that she used to take inspiration from the racy TV series for her slow motion acting.
Viewers know the 34-year-old actress for her role as Alex Parrish, a smart FBI agent, in ABC’s conspiracy thriller, “Quantico.”
In the upcoming action-comedy film, Chopra plays Victoria Leeds, an affluent and ambitious businesswoman who’s involved in drug trafficking in the city of Miami, Florida.
The elite lifeguards Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne Johnson) and Matt Brody (Zac Efron) detected that Leeds uses the coastline for her felonious empire. Hence, they set aside their differences to bring down the female antagonist.
“She has a point to prove,” Chopra described her character. “She’s a woman in a man’s world. She’s not just a random woman with money, she’s self-made. This is not just drugs and money for her, it’s power. That’s the cause,” she also said.
The character was originally written to be portrayed by an actor, according to director Seth Gordon. However, when he contacted Chopra, he knew she can play the role pretty well.
“I really loved the idea of Dwayne going up against a female antagonist,” said Gordon. He was also the director of “Horrible Bosses.”
Also starring in the movie is Alexandra Daddario as Summer Quinn, a female lifeguard, skilled surfer, and Brody’s love interest. Daddario once worked with Johnson in “San Andreas,” a 2015 disaster film.
Kelly Rohrbach and Rob Huebel also appears in the movie. They play C.J. Parker and Captain Thorpe, respectively.
“Baywatch” will hit the big screens on May 25.
