It is no secret that earlier during the production of “Prison Break” season 5, lead star Dominic Purcell had gotten into a freak accident which resulted in a broken nose. It turns out that while Purcell’s bruises are not by any means wanted, they will be incorporated in the narrative of the show.
Talking to Deadline, the actor who plays Lincoln Burrows shared that the production decided to take his condition on-screen with a narrative of its own. He explains that the scruff marks will feel organic to the story given that Lincoln has always been bruised one way or another.
“We’re jumping to episodes eight and nine, which we haven’t shot, and we’re going to play the injuries in it. They’ll just write something where Lincoln gets bashed in the head with an iron bar or something,” the Australian actor explained.
The decision is also rooted from Purcell’s speedy recovery. While his wounds have not yet fully healed and with some still visible, he has been back on his feet sooner than what everyone had expected.
“No one expected me to recover so quickly. If you look at my face now, we can get away with it,” he added.
Purcell’s ordeal was chronicled through his updates via his official Instagram account from him being rushed to the hospital to his day-to-day healing. The accident was severe that it gave him a broken nose and head injuries that needed more than 100 stitches. All throughout, the actor’s longtime girlfriend “90210” actress AnnaLyne McCord stuck by his side.
Given the on-set mishap, production for the revival miniseries are still ongoing. The 46-year-old thespian even shared some juicy tidbits on where the new storyline will take Lincoln and his brother Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller).
“It’s tying into what’s going on in the world today with terrorism. The show is taking place in Yemen; we’re dealing with ISIS and ISA,” he explained. “It’s an extraordinary, extraordinary show. I’ve seen the dailies of it, and it looks like a cross between ‘Bourne Identity’ and ‘American Sniper.’ It’s crazy. It’s really, really cool.”
Aside from the premise, the fact that Michael is alive and even embroiled with terrorists will be another focal point of the series.
“Prison Break” season 5 will premiere on FOX sometime early next year.
