'Prison Break' season 5 news: Dominic Purcell suffers injury on set; production schedule not affected

The long-awaited fifth season revival of “Prison Break” is in the thick of production but an accident involving series lead Dominic Purcell almost halted the process, which could have eventually ended up with a premiere date delay.

The actor, who plays Lincoln Burrows, revealed that an iron bar had fallen on his head. As a result, his head split open and broke his nose in two places. Despite the actor not escaping the accident unscathed, by a stroke of luck, he appears to be relatively fine.

A 20th Century Fox representative exclusively gave away more details regarding the accident to Deadline via a statement that reads:

“Our friend and colleague Dominic Purcell was injured earlier this week during the filming of our event series ‘Prison Break,’ and was flown to a medical facility where he received treatment. We are happy to report that he is in great spirits and is expected to make a full recovery. He wanted us to express his appreciation to the fans around the world who have expressed their concern and support, and to reassure them that he will be back at work very soon.”

While the bruises are not life threatening, they still appear to be quite serious, especially with Purcell’s face snap update on his official Instagram account. Fortunately, the actor shows no signs of letting up as he vows to come back to work as soon as possible. He has also taken the whole unfortunate incident in stride using humor to appease his worrying fans.

Furthermore, he also thanked his co-star Wentworth Miller, who plays Michael, for taking over the mantle and moving forward with the production while he takes the backseat. In a separate Instagram update, he posted a photo of Miller with a lengthy caption applauding his on-screen brother.

“His concern for my health was his first priority,” Purcell revealed. “Went is holding up the fort in my absence his leadership and care is inspirational. He’s taken control taken it upon himself to push the production and lead by example.”

The upcoming iteration of “Prison Break” is filming the bulk of its scenes in Vancouver but will also have location shoots in Morocco which will stand in place of the civil war-torn Yemen. Reports say that Michael’s supposed death in season 4’s finale will be eradicated with the reveal that he has been kept in a prison in Yemen.

“Prison Break” season 5 is scheduled to premiere early next year.
