Pokemon fans are in for a treat as the company continues to raise the bar in providing its fans with unique and new-in-the-market products. Just recently, Nintendo, The Pokmon Company, and Google made news that they will be investing in Niantic Labs for a mobile application called Pokmon Go.
The funding is not a small amount, but Tsunekazu Ishihara from The Pokmon Company said: “Pokemon’s strategic investment in Niantic paves the way for a social mobile experience the world has never seen before,” reports Express Co UK.
He added that “The Pokmon Company is committed to partnering with companies like Niantic that share the same spirit of community and innovation.”
With its high possibility of Pokmon Go making a hit with Pokmon fans, business-wise, it also seems that this is a calculated risk that will bring higher returns for the companies. The Barron’s Asia blog noted the thoughts of Jefferies’ Atul Goyal on this move: “This is something that Nintendo had not done for decades. This further investment is another indication, that mobile is not a “lets-try-and-see” venture for Nintendo. We believe this [Niantic partnership] is now going to be the core of the new Nintendo, around which it will try to grow its IP / franchise.”
Pokmon Go aims to combine gameplay and augmented reality in a mobile game, mentions Christian Today. Along with a Pokmon Go Plus wearable, players can get a feel of becoming Pokmon trainers and catch Pokmon in actual locations.
Meanwhile, another augmented reality is the Pokmon Expo Gym opening soon in Osaka, Japan. This facility will offer different training programs as well as different game-related events such as Charizard’s Battle Colosseum and Gardevoir’s Control Score with a chance for fans to have special Pokmon for its Pokmon X, Pokmon Y, Alpha Sapphire, and Omega Ruby games. The gym will come with a membership card, which can be pre-ordered starting October 31. Aside from this, it will also have its own application in smartphones called Pokemon Expo Gym Gear, for users to track their statistics.
Pokmon Go is anticipated to be released in 2016, while the Pokmon gym will open on November 19 this year.
