PlayStation news: Sony releases standalone PlayStation messaging app for both iOS and Android users

Like any other messaging application, the new PlayStation app will give loyal PlayStation users the capability to quickly send messages to people in their collated contact list. There is also the option to have a message sent directly and privately to only one contact or to a group of people via group messaging.

A blog post about the big reveal was written by John Koller, Vice President of PlayStation brand marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. He wrote that the company has long been devoted to making the PlayStation more socially accessible. The application can make it easier for users to talk to each other compared to the already outfitted “Messages” tab. An excerpt of the blog reads, “We know that Messages is the most used feature of the PlayStation App, so we created the standalone PlayStation Messages app with a more streamlined design in order to get you into your Messages and communicating with your friends faster than ever before.”

Aside from the basic messaging features, the new application also includes a set of organizing capabilities to make sure that players will find contacts easier. Tabs like “Current Conversations” and “Favorite Tab” were introduced. Furthermore, users can also send plain text messages or stickers. Various files can also be attached, and voice clips can be sent.

On top of the recently released app, Sony has also updated the main PlayStation app which now includes a new and gradient-free icon.
