“Pitch Perfect 3” is set to start filming in early 2016, according to actress Rebel Wilson who recently spoke about the project on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” It was confirmed early on that Wilson will reprise her role as Fat Amy in the third film.
Apart from Wilson, it was previously reported by Variety that Elizabeth Banks, who is also known for her onscreen work as an actress, will return to direct the third installment in the successful film franchise.
Hailee Steinfeld has also confirmed her reunion with the other Barden Bellas after she was first introduced in the second film as Emily.
“I’m in. I can’t wait! It’s all happening,” she told E! News exclusively.
Kay Cannon, who wrote the screenplay for the first two films, will also write the script for “Pitch Perfect 3.” Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow, who played Beca and Chloe, respectively, have also confirmed their return, according to ET.
The first film, “Pitch Perfect,” based on a book titled “Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Capella Group” by Mickey Rapkin, marked a successful launch for the franchise, reportedly grossing $115 million worldwide. The sequel, “Pitch Perfect 2,” surpassed the first film, grossing $286 million against a budget of $29 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
As for the other cast members, there is no news yet linking their involvement to “Pitch Perfect 3.” Furthermore, there is not much known about the plot.
On an interview with Collider earlier this year, Banks noted how she was unsure of how the story would go. She said:
“I will say, it would be disingenuous to say that no one’s talking about a Pitch Perfect 3; the possibility of it. We are really focused on getting as many butts in seats for this one. If fans embrace it, we are going to seriously think about what the continuing journey would look like, but we don’t know what that is yet.”
Banks and Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions and Paul Brooks of Gold Circle Entertainment will also return as producers.
“Pitch Perfect 3” is set to premiere on Aug. 4, 2017.
