'Persona 5' release date: Countdown to May 5 event continues


Will fans finally get their hands on the much awaited game “Persona 5?”

The countdown is on for the May 5 event that Atlus announced recently. The upcoming live streaming event will center on their upcoming new game “Persona 5.”

On May 5, which, incidentally, can also be written as 05/05a strong reference to the game’s ordinal number in the franchiseAtlus Games will hold a special live streaming event via Japanese game streaming site NicoNico. The said live streaming event will go live on the mentioned date, at 9:00 P.M. JST, or 5:30 A.M. PT, 8:30 A.M.ET, and 12:30 P.M. GMT.

Altus also released a new teaser poster for the live streaming event showing “The Phantom” with the caption, “I will take Tokyo Tower on May 5.” To recall, “The Phantom” had a number of key appearances in previous “Persona” games. More recently, the character had a strong presence in the teasers for the new and upcoming game.

Meanwhile, for fans who really want to feel the hype for the upcoming big event, the countdown page for the May 5 event is still up and ticking down. What the page may show after the time runs out is yet another mystery that fans are excited about.

“Persona 5” will take on the story of a group of high school teenagers who will find themselves in a peculiar and strange turn of events due to their personal beliefs. Game director Katsura Hashino called the story of the new game as something that is both thrilling and “as large as life.”

“In the previous game, we wrote a story that involved having a justice group chase down a bad guy that could easily be feared by just about anyone,” he said. “This time, it’s about a group of high school students that are being ‘chased’ by unexpected occurrences due to the justice they believe in. We’re writing [the story] to convey a thrilling everyday life in the shoes of these characters, that are as large as life, in this juvenile school setting.”

“Persona 5” will be released for the PS4 and the PS3.
