'Persona 5' news: brand-new characters introduced, 18-minute first look

The recently held “Persona 5” Premium Event did not disappoint fans as Altus treated fans to a lot of new game details they can look forward to once the game drops. The list of goodies include the introduction of seven more Cooperation characters and the first look at the much anticipated title.

The upcoming role-playing video game will first bring Hifumi Togo (voiced by Tomomi Isomura) into the fold. Togo, based on the official description, is a young lady who goes to Kosei Public High School. She is also the Female Shogi League champion. However, her looks often mislead people to think that she is too good looking to be a serious competitor.

Toranosuke Yoshida (voiced by Keiichi Noda), on the other hand, is a man who frequently gives speeches at the Shibuya Station. It turns out that he has had practice for the last couple of years being an aspiring politician. Unfortunately, he has lost a total of seven consecutive elections in the last 20 years.

Shinjuku’s fortune teller named Chihaya Mifune (voiced by Miyu Matsuki) is also on board in the new game installment. Her happy and cheerful disposition in life helps her in her career. However, her personal life is far from sunny. There is a buzz that she may actually be the real deal as she is dubbed to have a significant impact on other characters via the “suspicious stones.”

Meanwhile, Sadayo Kawakami (voiced by Mai Fuchigami) is a teacher at Syujin High where she also handles class 2-B. Her appearance as an eternally sleepy adviser may just be a front as she can be quite the opposite of that.

Joining Kawakami in Syujin High is Yuki Mishima (voiced by Daisuke Sakaguchi) who is a sophomore student in the school. He is a member of the volleyball club and a good friend of the protagonist. However, after getting himself hurt, he mysteriously tries to avoid contact with the game lead.

Shinya Oda (voiced by Aki Kanada), is a young elementary student who always hangs out at an arcade in Akihabara. He is especially good in an online shooting game and is very interested in the power of the Phantom Thieves.

Lastly, Ichiko Oya (voiced by Yumi Uchiyama) is a starting reporter who mainly focuses on gossip news. She appears to have a history of being a political reporter who was once down the right path but something happened to her which made her turn to the dark side.

Aside from the brand-new characters, a long sneak peek video running for 18 minutes was also published in anticipation of the game’s release.

“Persona 5” is scheduled to come out for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. It will be released on Sept. 15 and Feb. 14 in Japan and North America, respectively.
