When season three of Showtime’s supernatural series “Penny Dreadful” returns to the small screen, viewers will be introduced to a number of new faces.
During the end of the last season, Ethan Chandler played by Josh Hartnett, was sent to America after he surrendered to Scotland Yard for his crimes. Following the narrative of the series, fans will finally see who his father actually is. Only few details about the patriarch have been made known in the past, as he tried to make things right between him and his son.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Brian Cox has been added to the motley crew as Ethan’s father Jared Talbot who is described to be a “powerful rancher…who has long been on the hunt for his son. Talbot will stop at nothing to bring Ethan back west to settle the score.”
The report added that he will not however appear on the season premiere but sometime halfway through the installment. His character will be highlighted in at least two episodes.
Aside from Cox, there has been a shake up when it comes to other cast members. Patti LuPone has been promoted to series regular to portray an American therapist named Dr. Seward who will treat Eva Green’s Vanessa. She joined the series as a guest star last season and played the role of Cut-Wife. Joining her is Samuel Barnett as her secretary.
Moreover, Perdita Weeks will become Catriona Hartdegan who will help Ethan, Sir Malcom Murray and Vanessa in scholarly things; Shazad Latif will portray the iconic scientist Dr. Henry Jekyll; Christian Camargo will be Dr. Alexander Sweet; Jessica Barden as Brona, Dorian Gray’s acolyte; and Wes Studi as Native American Kaetenay.
There is no official announcement regarding the release of season three but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2016 as the production is currently underway in Dublin.
