'Paragon' news: 'Early Access' coming on March 18

Epic Games’ upcoming multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) “Paragon” is releasing an Early Access version of the game on March 18 for the PS4 and PC.

Steve Superville, the creative director, revealed on Playstation.com that players can get a hold of all of the game’s heroes for free during Early Access. In order to participate in Early Access, players need to purchase a Founders’ Pack for $19.99, which will be available starting March 14.

Those who do not want to spend for the Early Access version, however, can still play for free during the game’s open beta sessions, which the report said will be conducted during weekends as Epic earlier announced.

In related news, the game is also allowing players to earn or unlock the game’s heroes for free or without spending any real money. According to Superville, Epic Games does not want to institute a “pay-to-win” system with “Paragon” so that players can earn their progress with sheer skill. He said that the game is “designed so that all players can compete and win without ever having to spend money… We’re taking this approach because we believe that competitive games need to be fair for all players.”

Only cosmetic items such as skins and emotes, boosts and convenience items will be for sale. The only other thing that players need to spend on is Early Access, if they choose to do so.

Epic Games also announced the paid content that will be made available to players. There is the Challenger Pack, which sells for $59.99, and the Master Pack, which sells for $99.99. Both will include a “huge number of skins, unlockable items, boosts, a unique skin and a Founder’s Pack to give to a friend.” Additional details about these packs have yet to be shared by Epic.

Although the game has yet to get an official release date, it is expected to arrive later in the year.
