“Outlander” fans are still in for a long wait as production for season 3 is underway, but to help viewers who are suffering from “Droughtlander,” the Starz series has announced some exciting casting news as it has found the actor to play adult Fergus.
The character will be played by “The Walk” star Csar Domboy. The actor will take over the role previously played by Romann Berrux in season 2. The casting of an adult Fergus is in keeping with the 20 year time jump which will be seen in season 3.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Fergus is described as having grown up into a “charming, devilishly handsome man with a strong sense of loyalty and decorum, despite his unconventional upbringing.” He is also said to be the ultimate romantic and has the tendency to fall in and out of love easily. Over the years, his devotion to Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) has never wavered, making the Frenchman an integral part of the Fraser clan.
In Diana Gabaldon’s third “Outlander” novel titled “Voyager,” Fergus has come to view Jamie as a father figure. When some English soldiers nearly found Jamie’s hiding place in Lallybroch and tries to steal a cask of ale from him, Fergus taunts them, and one of the soldiers draws his sword and cuts off Fergus’ hand in one stroke. When he grows up, he falls in love and marries Laoghaire’s daughter, Marsali, and the two join Jamie and Claire as they go on a sea voyage to the Caribbean to find Jamie’s nephew, Ian, who has been kidnapped.
The third season of the Starz show will be based “Voyager.” As the TV series makes it a point to stay faithful to its source material, it’s likely that Domboy’s character will be sporting a hook in place of his missing hand when the show returns. Part of the new season will explore Claire and Jamie’s time apart before she time travels to find him again. Once the two are reunited, the couple will go on an adventure in the high seas as they search for Ian, which takes them to the Caribbean, and later, the New World.
Domboy joins John Bell, who was recently cast as Young Ian; Wil Johnson, who will play the role of Joe Abernathy; and David Berry, who nabbed the role of Lord John Grey in the series. It is expected that more new characters will be announced over the next few weeks.
“Outlander” season 3 premieres in 2017 on Starz.
