While there is limited information about Season 2 of Starz’s Outlander, Caitriona Balfe, who plays lead character Claire, has dished on what attracted her character to Jamie, played by Sam Heughan.
“Even though he’s a man of that time, there is something timeless about him and there’s something modern – his willingness to change his viewpoint or learn or be open to new ideas,” she explained in an interview with PEOPLE .
Balfe said that when her character traveled to the 18th century, her intent was not to fall in love with anybody. She further explained that hers and Jamie’s love story was a gradual unfolding which stemmed from a bond between a nurse and a patient.
Season 2’s plot which takes its cue from the second book in the Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series “Dragonfly in Amber” will reportedly revolve around Claire and Jaime’s struggle to stop the Jacobite rebellion and changing history to prevent the slaughter on Culloden Moor and the destruction of the Highland culture after it.
The series will also introduce this season Brianna, the daughter of Jamie and Claire. Among those being rumored to play the role, according to Youth Health Mag is Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner.
Sam Heughan himself reportedly sparked the rumors after he reposted a message from the Anglophile Channel with the caption: “If she was not so busy with #GameOfThrones, would Sophie Turner make a good #BriannaFraser? She is so striking!”
According to showrunner Ronald D. Moore, Lord John Grey and Roger Wakefield MacKenzie will also be appearing in Season 2, reported SpoilerTV.
However, it has not been confirmed yet if there will be a spinoff series based on Lord John Grey’s separate books.
“It’s in the back of our minds as a potential thing. But right now our minds are pretty firmly set on just delivering the second season. We’ll see what happens down the line on Lord Grey,” Moore said.
