Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) are heading toward the infamous Battle of Culloden as Starz’ hit periodical drama “Outlander” comes to a close for season 2.
The finale episode will be a movie-sized installment titled “Dragonfly in Amber” after the second novel written by Diana Gabaldon featuring the couple on the 18th century war against the British. Claire will also tell Brianna (Sophie Skelton) the truth about her parentage, her time travel through the stones and her life in 1700’s Scotland.
The official description for the finale reveals that aside from introduction of adult Brianna, the viewers will also get to see Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin). Claire will travel to Scotland with her daughter and visit Lallybroch and Culloden Moor to make peace with the past. Brianna and Roger bond over researching the history of Randall family.
Meanwhile, the story is intercut with the scenario happening in 1746 during the aforementioned battle, “When Jamie’s last ditch attempts to deter The Prince fail, he and Claire come up with a dangerous plan which Dougal overhears, inciting him to a murderous rage. Jamie must do everything he can to save the ones he loves, even if it means saying goodbye to someor allof them,” the synopsis fully reads.
Alongside the official episode description, Starz has also released the first look into the finale.
The writers promised that the viewers may expect the instalment to require some tissues, a bit of Scottish whisky and few twists that are not included in the original source materials. Heughan told IGN that, “[Season 2] certainly has a climax. [Showrunner Ron Moore] has also got some surprises.”
“Ultimately the show has always been about relationships. Not only is that the climax of history, but it’s also the climax of the relationships that are happening at the time. It’s all doomed, and we can’t stop history from happening,” the actor continued.
Season 2’s 90-minute episode 13 is slated to air on Saturday, July 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
