The fourth season of “Orange Is the New Black” gave viewers a couple of emotionally powerful scenes. One of which is that of Lolly (Lori Petty) being sent to the psychiatric ward following being pinned to the garden murder. Despite this, the actress who plays the schizophrenic inmate believes that it is not the last time fans have seen her character.

Despite being uncertain of the plot for the fifth season of the dramedy, the “Prison Break” alum still believes that Lolly’s story is not over yet.

“I do think we will,” Petty told The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview. “I can’t say for sure, but I absolutely think we will. They are just now filming episode one [of season five] and you know how we ended season four. They have a lot to deal with right now! I’m just waiting on the phone call to get back on the plane. I’m sure it will come, but we have 13 episodes and they’ve got a lot to take care of, so we’ll see.”

Needless to say, being the first from the group to be sent to psychiatric confinement opens a lot of new stories not just for Lolly but for the show as a whole. This is extremely pivotal given that “Orange Is the New Black” is sure to be running until season 7 with Netflix rolling out a multi-season renewal for the series..

Despite being introduced in the show way back in season 2, not much is known about Lolly. Her character development was also slow in itself but as time went on, she became one of the funniest yet emotionally riveting characters. Her contribution to the overall dynamic of the show was proven when she saved Alex’s (Laura Prepon) life in the infamous greenhouse incident. The 52-year-old actress chalks the fans’ support to her highly relatable story.

“Even though Lolly is funny and lovable and half of a murderer [laughs] she’s very relatable and people see her as a friend. She even says, ‘I’m the good friend.’ Because she is. I think it grows compassion and empathy and the more people can see it, the more they can get a handle on it,” Petty explained.

No official return date for “Orange Is the New Black” season 5, but fans can expect it to be available on Netflix sometime June of next year.
