Production is underway for the fifth season of “Orange Is the New Black,” and the show’s official Instagram page posted some behind-the-scene pictures which show some fan-favorite characters who will be seen in the next installment.
The OINTB page reposted a photo of Lea DeLaria (Big Boo) and Taryn Manning (Tiffany) making silly faces at the camera on Oct. 4, followed by a shot of Uzo Aduba (Crazy Eyes), Jackie Cruz (Flaca), DeLaria, and Danielle Brooks (Taystee) on Oct. 11. The first photo showed Manning and DeLaria in their prison costumes.
The new season is expected to feature the fallout after Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death in season 4, and no one will be more affected than her best friend, Taystee. Brooks said the next time viewers see her character, Taystee will be very different from how she was in the show’s very first episode.
“Losing both Vee [Lorraine Toussaint] and Poussey, and then the death of Poussey having no justice, she’s ready for war,” said Brooks to E! News. “You’re going to get a very different Taystee than the Taystee you met in the shower, season 1, episode 1.”
Season 5 will also address the finale’s cliffhanger which saw Daya (Dascha Polanco) pointing Humphrey’s (Michael Torpey) own gun at his head.
“She’s in a dark place,” Polanco told The Hollywood Reporter about her character’s actions in the finale. “Dayanara’s a victim of circumstance. It’s a cycle that keeps on repeating itself.”
On whether Daya can pull the trigger, Polanco said that she can definitely see the character going for it due to fact that she’s suffering from postpartum depression.
“A woman going through postpartum at that point, they’re very sensitive and fragile,” said the actress.
It is expected that the show will return to Netflix in June 2017, based on the previous seasons’ premiere dates. OITNB seasons 2 to 4 all debuted in June, and a Redditor claims that season 5 will premiere on June 26, 2017.
Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date for season 5 of “Orange Is the New Black.”
