“Orange Is the New Black” ended its fourth season on a cliffhanger following the death of a beloved character. Now, while fans are waiting to see what happens to the ladies at Litchfield prison in season 5, rumors claim that the show has been cancelled by Netflix.
A website named TMZ Uncut reported that Netflix had cancelled the show’s fifth season after company employees allegedly stopped coming to work. The report claimed that the decision was made after 78 of the streaming service’s employees failed to come in for work after an “Orange Is the New Black” watch party.
Snopes debunked the report, saying that the article was a complete fabrication. The site noted that while it is unclear as to who produces content for TMZ Uncut, which is not connected with the real TMZ celebrity news site, it appears to be connected to Celebritricity, which is known for publishing fake news about celebrities. Snopes also noted that Netflix has not made any announcements suggesting an “OINTB” cancellation and that the show has been renewed through season 7.
Moreover, filming is currently ongoing for the show’s fifth season, which proves that Netflix is unlikely to cancel the series any time soon. On Aug. 26, Danielle Brooks (Taystee) posted a behind-the-scenes selfie on her Instagram account, with the caption “Home. @oitnb.”
Series star Adrienne C. Moore, who plays Black Cindy in the show, recently spoke with Jezebel to talk about the new season and the actress said that even they can’t believe what’s going to happen on the show.
“We just got filming underway, and we’re already buzzing,” said Moore. “We’re already like, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!'”
The fourth season of the hit series ended on a tragic note as fan favorite Poussey Washington (Samira Wiley) was killed by an unexperienced prison guard in the penultimate episode. This led to a riot in the finale, with Daya (Dascha Polanco) picking up a gun and pointing it at CO Humphrey’s (Michael Torpey) head in the final scene of the season ender. The fifth season will likely pick up where it left off, and fans will learn whether Daya pulled the trigger or not.
“Orange Is the New Black” season 5 premieres in 2017 on Netflix.
