'Orange is the New Black' season 4 spoilers: Show to get bolder, darker

“Orange is the New Black” left Alex (Laura Prepon) in a precarious situation last season hinting of her character’s possible demise in the upcoming season.

In the chapter-ender of the Netflix show titled “Trust No B*tch,” Alex was cornered by a new guard in the greenhouse, who turned out to be one of the henchmen of Kudra. Fortunately, new updates confirm that Prepon is indeed coming back for a fourth season with a prominent role.

In an interview with Parade back in April as a promo for her new book, Prepon revealed some tidbits about the show. The actress shared that season 4 is the show’s best season yet, and show creator Jenji Kohan has definitely “pushed the envelope” in terms of the thematic of the story.

Given this, fans are excited to find out how she will be able to escape the situation she was left in. Furthermore, it is also interesting to know how her relationship with Piper will develop moving forward.

Speaking of Alex and Piper’s relationship, Prepon also briefly talked about the subject in a separate conversation with E! News.

“The Alex and Piper relationship is so awesome. It’s so tumultuous… they love each other a lot. It’s this crazy relationship, there’s never a dull moment. I don’t know if two people like that could ever ride off into the sunset, but we’ll see what happens in season four. There’s no shortage of stories to tell,” Prepon explained.

Aside from the characters’ individual storyline, “Orange is the New Black” season 4 is said to be also coursing to a darker and bolder direction. The comedy-drama series has been critically acclaimed for tackling sensitive issues that mirror modern society.

“There’s a lot of laughs, but you must buckle your seatbelts, because she takes some very interesting turns,” cast member Kate Mulgrew, who plays Galina “Red” Reznikov in the hit series, shared. The actress appeared in the show’s Netflix event in Paris last month.

“It gets darker. It’s get very dark. I think you will be very surprised, I think you will be wholeheartedly engaged, you will be riveted,” she added.

“Orange is the New Black” will be back with a brand new season on June 17, Friday on Netflix.
