Just a few days before the official launch of the OnePlus 3, a new set of image renders for the upcoming flagship device has leaked online, this time seemingly coming from a promotional material.
A new report showed the OnePlus 3 in a new set of images. The device was shown on all sides, seemingly confirming some of the physical design cues rumored for the device, such as speaker grills and the new USB Type-C port.
The company has not yet released the official specifications of the new flagship device, but based on the listing for the device that was found on China’s certification agency TENAA’s database, it can be said that the upcoming OnePlus 3 would sport a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a 1080p Full HD resolution. The device’s dimensions are said to be at 152.6 mm tall, 74.6 mm in width, and is only 7.3 mm thin. The deice supposedly weighs 160 grams.
The device runs under a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset, the new chipset that is used by most flagship devices from various developers this season. It has an octa-core processor clocking in at a frequency speed of up to 2.15 GHz tops.
One of the biggest changes that the Chinese mobile developer would be implementing with the release of the new flagship is the removal of the invite system. The invite system of the two previous flagships had been viewed as a dreaded mechanic to be able to get a hold of the device, giving the OnePlus and the OnePlus 2 and even the non-flagship OnePlus X a feel of an exclusivity. Now, the OnePlus 3 will be available for the general public, with no kind of invite or similar system whatsoever.
“With the OnePlus 3, we’re officially saying goodbye to invites,” OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei said. “It’s a big step for us as a company, our fans, and fellow tech enthusiasts. After sending out millions of invites over the past two years, it’s hard to not think back to the early days and how far we’ve come. We’re proud to have reached a point where we feel confident in making our new device available without invites from day one.”
The OnePlus 3 is set to be released on June 15 and via a virtual reality launch.
