“One Punch Man” fans have been waiting for the second season of the anime series ever since it aired its finale last year. While season 2 has yet to be confirmed, rumors claim that more details about the upcoming installment will be released this month.
According to University Herald, season 2 of “One Punch Man” will have its official details released this September. No exact date has been mentioned regarding the purported announcement date, but it was claimed that the people behind the series will have a surprise for fans. It was said that season 2 will begin airing right after the English-dubbed first season ends in Toonami.
Back in 2015, manga creator Yusuke Murata announced that he was working on making the second season of the series a reality, but it was not confirmed if the new installment was in development. Fans are hoping that U.S. viewers’ positive response to season 1 might help to get the ball rolling on season 2, as Murata has been keeping mum about the new season. Director Shingo Natsume has also yet to confirm a second season for the series.
Earlier this month, Snap Thirty was able to talk to Natsume about “One Punch Man.” Though the future of the series was not discussed, the director did share his experience on directing the anime, and the pressures that were involved in its adaptation.
“As you can imagine with the quality of Murata’s art style it was hard to imagine how it would be in animation,” said Natsume. “The animators were really great people. We were lucky to have such skilled and passionate people that were able to reflect the animation really well.”
It is unknown if Natsume will be back for the new season of “One Punch Man” as he and writer Tomohiro Suzuki are working on the adaptation of manga author Natsume Ono’s “ACCA: 13-Ku Kansatsu-ka.” The new series is slated for a January 2017 release.
For the season 2 plot, rumors claim that the show might deviate from its source material as there aren’t enough manga chapters to cover a whole new season. It has been claimed that Saitama could get a new love interest, and it was also said that the hero might be part of a love triangle in “One Punch Man” season 2.
