The native, Japanese language version of the popular webcomic television adaptation “One Punch Man” wrapped up in December of last year, but fans of the anime series that don’t speak and understand Japanese have been hoping for an English-dubbed version for the next season. Will they finally get it this time?
Well, not exactly. Although there already are unconfirmed reports that “Once Punch Man” season 2 is underway, there still is no official release date and no confirmation that it will come with English dubs. Nonetheless, there’s something closer to that the news that Cartoon Network, via Adult Swim’s Toonami block, will be airing an English-dubbed version of the first season of the anime series. So does a surprise airing of an English-dubbed season 1 of “One Punch Man” mean the second season is drawing closer than expected?
Several rumors are on the affirmative, saying that the Cartoon Network airing could be used as a gauge on how viewers will respond to the first season. Some reports are even taking it further by speculating that it could be released earlier than the original rumored release date, which is supposedly in October. And if that turns out to be true, then it means fans of the anime series could see the next season in as early as next month.
The announcement of a Cartoon Network season 1 airing makes a huge difference because it could become the springboard for the “One Punch Man” series to gain and extend its audience and reach in the global scale. However, it certainly is true that the series already comes with a certain level of popularity in Japan. But the involvement of Cartoon Network will make it even bigger.
The English-dubbed version of season 1 of “One Punch Man” is slated for a premiere on Cartoon Network this coming July 16.
