Don’t look now, but season 2 of “One Punch Man” is likely going to happen sooner than expected. While there was initially zero progress as to the development of a new season of the anime adaptation of the popular Japanese webcomic, the highly successful showcase of the English-dubbed first season on Toonami could be enough reason to go on give season 2 an earlier premiere.
The first season and English-dubbed version of “One Punch Man” aired on Adult Swim last Saturday, July 16, and one could rightfully conclude that it was well-received. With that in mind, it’s no longer a surprise if that could very well become the basis for the official development and release of the second season.
Manga illustrator Yusuke Murata did confirm that a new season is going to happen, but up until now, there hasn’t been any news or official update that could answer the question of whether or not it already is in the works. But this doesn’t count the fact that the success of the English Dub could easily change or motivate Murata in creating new material for which the second season could be based on.
Nonetheless, fans of the series adaptation shouldn’t get overly excited since it there also is a possibility that season 2 of “One Punch Man” won’t be released so long as the first season is still airing on Toonami. The showcase works in two ways: first, it allows those who didn’t have interest in the Japanese language version to finally catch up and figure out if Saitama is worth watching. Second, the re-airing also serves as some type of pick-me-up for those who already saw the original language version.
“One Punch Man” season 2 is expected to be released to the viewing public in October of this year, barring any new delays.
