'Once Upon a Time' season 5 news: showrunner teases 'Ruby Slippers'

In just a little over a month, “Once Upon a Time,” season 5 will return from its winter break to air its 100th episode, with numerous rumors and spoilers dropping as its midseason premiere date nears. With a three-month hiatus, fans are already looking forward on how the story will go on in the next half of the season.

Titled “Souls of the Departed,” episode 12 of season 5 will premiere with the Evil Queen in the underworld. Regina (Lana Parilla), who have sent people she killed to the underworld, will confront these souls as she tries to amend her past wrongdoings.

Last weekend, Adam Horowitz, one of the show creators of “Once Upon a Time,” revealed on his Twitter account that they are just “fine tuning” the said episode. Fans are already excited and looking forward for the midseason premiere, as expressed on the tweet’s comments section.

After which, fans will get to see Hercules and Meg, played by Jonathan Whitesell and Kacey Rohl, respectively, in episode 13 titled “Labor of Love.”

Meanwhile, last Tuesday, Horowitz posted again another teaser on his Twitter account, this time pertaining to the season’s episode 18. It simply noted the show’s title, along with the episode’s title, “Ruby Slippers.”

According to Carter Matt, the teaser may imply two possibilities. First, it may indicate a new storyline for Dorothy of Oz, after the character was confirmed to be back in the second half of “Once Upon a Time,” portrayed by a different character.

On the other hand, it may also pertain to the character named Ruby Lucas or Little Red Riding Hood, portrayed by Meghan Ory, after the actress was also confirmed to have more air time. Ory’s character is also one of the rumored potential love interests of Mulan, played by Jamie Chung, as the show will explore LGBT relationships in the season, said the same report.

“Once Upon a Time” season 5 will be back on March 6 at 8 P.M. on ABC.
